Individuals may anticipate out the shaman when suffereing from sickness or misfortune. In any situation, the shamans function is to communicate with the ancestors or spirits who may be responsible for the perils being suffered. (Ortner, S., 1978 pg. 195.) to each one tribe uses a shaman for different reasons, but the popular belief among shamans is that they are there to serve as an emissary to the supernatural world. They help repair relationships with the people in their communities and the spirits of the supernatural world so that everyone can live in harmony.
